Finding high-quality and affordable chiropractic care can take some time unless you know a good place to look. At the Cleveland University-Kansas City (CUKC) Chiropractic Health Center, you can have the best of both worlds. If you’ve been reading our blogs in the past couple of years, you’ve seen how we’ve provided valuable information about options and recommendations for all kinds of musculoskeletal conditions and challenges – from backpack safety tips for kids to exercises for senior adults.
Today, our blog space will review what being a patient at the on-campus CUKC clinic is like, and what you can expect when you come in for personalized chiropractic care.
The CUKC Chiropractic Health Center is a patient-focused, open-to-the-public healthcare facility with top-of-the-line technology. We welcome your phone calls (913) 234-0700) and emails (ContactUs@ChiroHealthKC.com) about our services. Our clinic serves about 30,000 patient visits per year.
After scheduling an appointment for a new patient examination, you will be emailed a link to complete intake paperwork online. This paperwork provides our chiropractors with crucial details about your health history and current condition.
When you arrive at the Health Center for your appointment, our front desk staff will review privacy policies and financial details with you. You will then be escorted to an exam room by a student intern, where a licensed doctor of chiropractic (often called a clinician) will also greet you.
Each student intern in the Health Center works under the direct supervision of 1-2 clinicians. The clinicians who work in the CUKC Health Center are highly-skilled and have years of experience treating a variety of patients and conditions. They may not be in the room for the entire duration of your exam but they will always be nearby to observe the student intern.
In addition, your student intern may step away from the treatment room for a few minutes to consult with the clinician before continuing the examination. You can feel safe knowing that your care is in the hands of expert doctors.
The clinician and student intern will work together to perform a detailed history and examination. These examinations will help the clinician and intern determine the cause of your pain and the best way to treat it.
At the end of your first visit to the Health Center, your student intern and clinician may decide to undergo treatment. This treatment may include an adjustment, which uses a controlled thrust to improve motion at spinal segments.
In addition, the Health Center has a variety of therapies that may be appropriate for treating your condition:
Your student intern and clinician will review the suggested procedures with you thoroughly and give you an opportunity to ask questions before any treatment is performed.
Occasionally, advanced testing, such as an X-ray, is needed before treatment can be provided. Our Health Center has an in-house x-ray suite and your images are often performed on the same day as your new patient examination, eliminating the need for an extra appointment. All of our imaging is read by a licensed chiropractic radiologist and you will receive a copy of the report at your follow-up visit.
After you leave our clinic, the clinician and student intern will set up a time to confidentially review your history and examination findings to put together a customized treatment plan. A chiropractic treatment plan usually involves a sequence of visits over a short duration of time. Each treatment plan has defined goals, and at the end of your treatment plan, you will be re-examined to make sure you have reached these goals.
Your student intern and clinician will do their best to find the best chiropractic care for you and your complaint, all at a very affordable price.
Once they have reviewed your case, your student intern and clinician will schedule a follow-up visit called a Report of Findings. At this visit, they will review your diagnosis and options for treatment. You will have plenty of time to ask questions, and, if needed, the treatment plan can be further modified to fit your lifestyle and goals.
